In the spring of 2020, a pandemic was raising the health concerns of our country and essentially stopped the activity of square dancing. After careful review and prayer, a small group of people decided that they were not going to live in fear and felt the community connection that square dance offers was a better choice. The first night, two squares of dancers met in a friend’s garage to dance to calls on a compact disk.

Over the next two Fridays, the group grew to four squares and were outgrowing the space. Adding to the situation, it was in Texas and the temperatures were starting to rise. One of the group knew of a location that was air conditioned and available.

On 05/29/2020 the Texas Renegades were born and had 50 dancers show up to dance to a local caller. We soon applied and were accepted as a member of the HSRDC (Houston Square and Round Dance Council.)
